3,4

million people die each year from water related illness

This is aggravated by the fact that the water demand is expected to grow. Nevertheless pollution, over-exploitation, deterioration of infrastructure and climate change are all determinant for the reduction of the existing water supply. Despite two-thirds of the earth are covered with water, just 0,3 percent of it is actually drinkable and more importantly unequally distributed. This leads to the reason why globally 880 million people lack access to clean water.

Without clean, easily accessible water, families and communities are locked in poverty for generations. Children drop out of school and parents struggle to make a living. Women and children are worst affected — children because they are more vulnerable to diseases of dirty water and women and girls because they often bear the burden of carrying water for their families for an estimated 200 million hours each day.

The fight for water is tough: The agricultural, industrial and energy sectors are competing for scarce water resources currently needed for human consumption. But water not only has to be available it also hast to be „safe“ as there are lots of rivers with contaminated water and lack of hygiene due to missing sanitary fittings. About 4,5 billion people worldwide are not able to use safe sanitations.

Not only life-threatening diseases are caused by this, far too much it leads to death: 3,4 million people die each year from lack of water and related illnesses. Hence, access to clean water changes everything and helps people to avoid lots of risks. It contributes to a healthy and happy life.
